Abstract Background

EERS Core IP

EERS has built an important international IP portfolio that includes patents covering fundamental interactions of in-ear and

outer-ear microphones that address occlusion, fit testing, noise cancelling, signal enhancement, motion determination, EEG signal gathering, and many other important innovations that exist as algorithms, earpiece designs, source code, mechanical and electrical designs, all related to pivotal elements associated with in-ear technologies.

Fit Testing

Fit Testing

The company has created methods to accurately measure the level of hearing protection achieved by an individual in a noise soundscape. This quantifiable measurement removes guesswork and will enable hearing conservation programs, visitor safety practices, hearing sensitivity preparation, medical standard of care, and new military SOPs.

Dosimetry

Dosimetry

Perhaps the most challenging acoustic measurement on human subjects is to determine the noise exposure that an eardrum experienced through a period of time.

The myriad of conflicting signals present withing the ear canal make an accurate, trustworthy dose calculation extremely difficult.

EERS has developed a complete system that can enable a

fact-based measurement to protect individuals from Noise Induced Hearing Loss, and to protect institutions from spurious hearing loss claims.

This is truly a complex signal-to-noise problem. However, it is now possible to develop a product ecosystem that will guarantee the safety of workers’ hearing using in-ear dosimetry, continuous fit monitoring and cloud-based worker monitoring.

Physical and Acoustical Comfort

Advanced In-Ear Communication

Advanced In-Ear Communication

Our algorithms enable clear, effortless communication in extremely noisy soundscapes including harsh industrial, entertainment, medical MRI, street or public noise, and other scenarios.

To accomplish this our engineers have built both near and far end signal processing that remove, insert or replace audio clues at key frequencies to satisfy the human desire for clarity and intelligibility.

Biosigals

Biosignals

Our algorithms can monitor heart rate and breathing rate using in-ear microphones, even in the presence of user motion and noise.

Biomechaical Design - Earpiece

Biomechanical Design: Earpieces

We believe that comfort is critical to the acceptance of in-ear products.

EERS has extensive ability to capture ear forms through silicon impressions, 3D scanning and patent-pending mapping and alignment technology.  We are skilled in modelling tools like Rhino and Abaqus and can produce FEMs for a variety of problems.

Our deep knowledge of morphology and sensitivities of the ear and ear canal make us uniquely positioned to help our customers enhance the comfort of their in-ear devices.

Biomechaical Design - Eartips

Biomechanical Design: Eartips

With years of experience building in ear devices, having designed and patented self-vulcanizing ear tips and having deep experience in silicon and other materials, EERS is at the forefront of new novel tip design parameters, sizing and shape effects, and the manufacturability options for improved in ear devices offering all-day comfort, moisture and secretion tolerance as well as ease of application.

Implementation Capacity

Implementation Capability

Nearly all our algorithms begin as an idea that gets implemented in MATLAB, however a great source of pride is our ability to move the idea and make it operational through a combination of software and silicon.  We are skilled in a variety of DSPs, ARM Cortex CPUs, for purpose audio SOCs (such as the Qualcomm family).  As such we are able to take a conceptual design and make it operational in a constrained space, that must be acoustically reliable, and within the ever-present power budget.

Specifically, the team’s experience with Qualcomm chips makes us one of the few companies capable of building and integrating custom algorithms.
